All these half marathon posts got me reminiscing o

All these half marathon posts got me reminiscing of when I did the half in October 2013… while I was proud to finish at 2:26 min… I was actually more proud of the journey leading up to the race.

I’d committed to running 4-5 times a week to prepare and had actually already run the half earlier this same week - didn’t record that time though - wonder why.

I also remember not wanting to buy these race photos because I thought I looked fat and weird while crossing the finish line. How interesting the young mind works!

If you ran now, or ran in the past - go you. Amazing. Congratulations 🎉 it is definitely a feat that was had way longer than the time it took to run on race day.

On Sunday morning I was sitting at our kitchen tab

On Sunday morning I was sitting at our kitchen table, holding a coffee and staring off into the distance. I’m not sure what my husband and kids thought I was thinking about but inside, I know I was feeling guilty.

I was thinking about what to put on the meal plan for the week, combining recipes depending on what activities we have planned after school and guilt crept in because:

👉🏼 It wasn’t done already
👉🏼 The recipes I was including we just had recently
👉🏼 I was choosing based on easiness to make in between work and daycare pick ups

When we got to my in-laws later that day, my mother-in-law apologized to me multiple times because she was upset the spaghetti she’d made was cold (it wasn’t) when we got there and she was apologetic that there was “only spaghetti and broccoli” for us to eat (my girls’ favourites). It was delicious.

A few hours later, I called my mom and ask if we could go visit my parents, as well, with a lot less notice and she agreed. She’d asked about dinner, and I insisted she not go through too much trouble, whatever she had.

When we got there, my mother apologized for “this is the best I could do on short notice” to a spread of 2 kinds of pasta, chickpeas, hashbrowns, a salad and a bunch of nibbles she thought were easy “yeses” for our girls.

On the way home in the car I thought about all the apologizing and guilting the three of us did yesterday. Everyone ate. Kids were fine.

So why do we do this to ourselves? Is this a mom thing?

I love seeing updated designs but more often than not - I’m a tad disappointed when a person I’ve been following has launched their new site, I click to view it and I see that while their website has a lot of great things on it - it doesn’t make sense.
